In humanitarian demining operations, there is an urgent need for advanced technology to enhance the mapping of hazardous areas through close-in detection. This technology must be cost-effective, user-friendly, and efficient. The PRIN 2022-PNRR project, TERRAIN - A Tomographic Ground Penetrating Radar for Humanitarian Demining Applications, is a collaborative research initiative between the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio and the University of Napoli 'Parthenope.' This project aims to meet this need by developing an on-field, non-invasive, short-range radar system for contactless subsurface inspection and investigation. This innovative prototype utilizes microwave radar technology and inverse problems algorithms to effectively detect and locate antipersonnel and antitank landmines.
