IDROS - Use of Drones for Underground Research

The "IDROS - Impiego di Droni per la Ricerca nel SottOSuolo" (Use of Drones for Underground Research) project was developed by the Microwave Laboratory of the University of Cassino together with the 3F & EDIN and the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli and was funded by the PON Imprese e Competitività through the call "Fondo Crescita Sostenibile - Horizon 2020"

The goal of the research is the development of a hardware / software system that, through the use of drones, allows the discovery of buried objects. The applications of the system are broad, including searching for underground waste and water leaks.

In these applications, the drone allows investigation in environments where humans would have difficulty accessing. The georadar positioned on the machine acquires information from the ground and, through an algorithm, allows the identification of objects in the subsoil.
