We can do incredible things with modern signal processing, but there is an impassable limit to what we are able to do: we cannot break the laws of physics. In the modern age as well as in the ancient time, the final limitations in the amount of information that can be reliably carried in a communication system are related to the laws of physics governing our world. We must include the physical limitations in the information theoretical communication model to study the final limitations.
