The 'Mirabilis' project (Multilevel methodologies to investigate interactions between radiofrequencies and biological systems) aims to evaluate the interaction mechanisms between radiofrequency electromagnetic fields and biological systems, combining the theoretical and experimental approach. In particular, the interactions between biological systems in vitro and radiofrequencies of the type used for the 4G / LTE and 5G network will be evaluated. The latter is of particular relevance since it was only recently introduced, and information on the interactions of millimeter waves and biological systems is still very limited.
The results of the biological experimentation will also be used to address molecular simulations on protein structures involved in the pathways that modulate the cellular response to non-ionizing electromagnetic fields.
The Cassino Microwave Laboratory has the task of designing, building and characterizing the exposure system in the 24 - 30 GHz frequency band.
