Risk management is the business of all of us at UNFPA – allowing us to understand and adapt to opportunities and challenges and to ensure we are fit for purpose. This Guidebook is essential to bringing our updated Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) policy to life and to achieving our strategic goals and objectives.
The purpose of this Guidebook is two-fold: to help identify, assess and manage risks that could affect the delivery of UNFPA’s mandate; and to provide a framework for evaluating risks alongside opportunities and trade-offs. It outlines the principles for ERM at UNFPA, defining the roles and responsibilities of staff and managers.
UNFPA has a long history of implementing sound risk management practices, helping us build a strong reputation with donors as a trusted partner that delivers results. The Guidebook builds on these achievements, helping us improve our risk culture and align ourselves with United Nations system-wide standards and best practices.
I encourage you to familiarize yourself with this useful resource and to use it in your daily work. Applying proper risk management consistently and effectively across our organization will guide us towards a reinvigorated, accountable, and impactful UNFPA poised to deliver the future we want: a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
Thank you for your continued collaboration and support.
