Graduate Student Housing Information

Below is housing information provided by the Housing and Residential Life office at the University of Minnesota. Housing information is provided in your MyU account. Please visit housing.umn.edu/graduate or contact housing@umn.edu with questions.

Early Arrival Housing
Temporary housing is available to all newly admitted international students before the start of the fall semester (this option is not available prior to spring semester).  Spouses and children are not eligible to stay in International Early Arrival Housing.  Here you can see more information and submit a temporary housing request.

The Hospitality Center

Many incoming international students utilize The Hospitality Center, which supports new international students. They are not affiliated with the U of M officially but they have volunteers who help students with airport pickup, temporary housing, and furnishing apartments. They also host social events and offer opportunities for students to improve their English.

Roommate Finder

The UMN Roommate Finder is a FREE service that allows you to search for other UMN students looking for roommates. You can search for roommates by location, price point, pets, and much more!

By filling out the Roommate Finder Form, you will receive access to a database of UMN students that are currently looking for a roommate (after you are approved), as well as helpful information/tips about finding the right roommate.

Housing Cooperatives

Housing & Residential Life contracts with two student-owned cooperatives to provide housing for University of Minnesota students. Both properties are owned by the University but are independently managed as cooperatives.

Commonwealth Terrace Cooperative (CTC)

Located south of the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus, CTC is only a few blocks from the UMN bus line and has easy access to the freeway system.

Como Student Community Cooperative (CSCC)

CSCC is approximately halfway between the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses and is located on the Metro Transit bus line.

*Both co-ops have childcare centers onsite.

West Bank Townhouses

The West Bank Townhouses are located near the West Bank campus. They can be shared with other students and require the same credit requirements as listed for on-campus housing.
