Research Interests:
There is a pressing need to transform our electric infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the 21st century while emphasizing the utilization of local and renewable resources of energy, and contextually respecting economic, social, and geopolitical constraints. Power-systems engineering, my field of research, focuses on the operation, control, and optimization of power networks. Power-systems engineers are at the forefront of enabling the compositional shift in the electrical infrastructure from (a few) fossil-fuel-driven electromechanical synchronous generators to (many) electronic inverter-interfaced renewables. Technical advances in this field hold the promise of achieving the goals mentioned above and realizing a sustainable energy future.
