On July 16, 2022, 988 was implemented as the new three-digit dialing code that serves as a universal and easily-remembered routing service. Callers, texters, and chatters will be routed to state and other local services–trained counselors can provide support and appropriate resources to individuals in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, or to anyone worried about a loved one who may need crisis support
