The Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) Mental Health Collective (MHC) was formed in January 2019 due to a community desire to create a radical healing space to foster conversations around the topic of Mental Health and Wellbeing in our communities. We acknowledge that much of the current resources/services at the University of Minnesota fit within traditional white western mental health framework and our collective strives to disrupt that model. Our group is open to students (undergraduate and graduate), staff, and faculty at the University of Minnesota. This is a space for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Middle Eastern and North African (MENA), Desi, Asian, and/or People of Color voices, experiences, and stories. Mixed race, QTIPOC, and trans-racial adopted folks, we see you and welcome you into the space.
Learn to Live offers five highly effective online programs based on the proven principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Our programs are confidential, accessible anywhere, and based on years of research showing online CBT programs to be as effective as face-to-face therapy. Choose the right program for you: our Social Anxiety Program, our Depression Program, our Insomnia Program, our Substance Use Program, or our Stress, Anxiety and Worry Program.

ISSS counselors are trained to provide both counseling and advising. Counseling usually involves a more in-depth meeting than advising. The ISSS counselor will listen, provide support, and help you understand yourself and your situation more clearly. The counselor will help you to make the changes that you deem necessary to feel more comfortable and successful at the University

The SoFT (Solution Focused Therapy) program is brief accelerated therapy intended to address a focused topic that can be addressed in 1-3 sessions. SoFT is a great option for students who want to learn coping skills fast or have a confidential space to talk about their recent stress for just a few sessions.
Let’s Talk is a program originally developed by Cornell University that provides informal drop-in consultations at various locations around campus for any U of M students throughout the academic year. No appointment is necessary, so students can drop in during the scheduled times, all appointments are free and confidential.
Let's Talk is offered 5 days a week across East and West Bank. We are excited to have a new site at ISSS this year! Click here for our detailed schedule and bios of counselors. Students are able to pick which location and counselor works best with their schedule and personal/professional identities/areas of expertise.
Let’s Talk may be especially helpful for:
● Students who are not sure about counseling and wonder what it’s like to talk with a counselor
● Students who are not interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a counselor
● Students who have a specific problem and would like someone with whom to talk it through
● Students who have a concern about a friend and want some thoughts about what to do
Please visit the Website and FAQ section for more information including staff bios, times and locations and to view schedules.
