Beginning December 1, 2022 the University of Minnesota transitioned to a new process for managing most workplace leave of absences as part of the PEAK Initiative. This means your Medical School HR teams will no longer process new leave of absence requests, specifically military, personal, disability, parental and medical leaves, including those covered by FMLA. These will be handled by a new Leave of Absence Team out of the Office of Human Resources (OHR).
Employees requesting these types of leaves can do so through one of the following methods:
Submit leave requests through MyU, under My Time > Request a Leave of Absence,
Contact the Leave of Absence Team at 1-612-624-8647 or 1-800-756-2363 and choose option 2, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:20 PM,
Contact the Leave of Absence Team via email at leaveadmin@umn.edu,
An employee’s supervisor, family member or emergency contact can also initiate a leave request on behalf of an employee by contacting the Leave of Absence Team.
The Leave Specialist assigned to an employee's leave request will copy the supervisor on emails to the employee to communicate information such as a leave start and end date. Questions about the leave of absence should be directed to the assigned Leave Specialist.
Please see the Leave of Absence webpage for further information, including How to Request a Leave of Absence Using MyU.
While the above mentioned leaves will no longer be processed with the Medical School HR teams, we will continue to process academic leaves such as sabbaticals and single semester leaves, and workers compensation.
