he was a shepherd, a sinner, a king, a poet, a murderer, a worshiper.
he was a man after YHWH’s own heart, as 1 samuel 13:14 says:
"YHWH hath sought him a man after his own heart,
and YHWH hath commanded him to be captain over his people."
yet this same man
stained his hands with blood
and his story with sin.
still, YHWH chose him.
not only to rule,
but to carry the royal line of Yahshua (jesus) Himself.
and i wonder:
why does YHWH love to use the broken?
why not the blameless?
but perhaps
the crack in a person
is where glory leaks through.
david’s strength wasn’t in his perfection—
it was in his repentance.
when confronted with his sin,
he didn’t defend—
he wept.
"i have sinned against YHWH,"
he said in 2 Samuel 12:13.
"and YHWH hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die."
his sin was grave—
but his return to YHWH was greater.
and in Psalm 51,
we hear his raw confession,
not just as a king,
but as a broken son:
"the sacrifices of YHWH are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart,
o YHWH, thou wilt not despise."
Psalm 51:17
that verse isn’t just beautiful—
it’s dangerous to pride.
it tells us that what YHWH seeks
is not image,
but truth.
not status,
but surrender.
YHWH didn’t hide david’s sin—
He wrote it into scripture.
and not only did He redeem him,
He chose him
to be part of the genealogy of yahshua (jesus),
as matthew 1:6 reminds us:
"and jesse begat david the king;
and david the king begat solomon
of her that had been the wife of urias."
it’s no coincidence.
this is YHWH’s pattern:
grace in the cracks.
He doesn’t call the flawless.
He calls the fractured—
then fills them with His strength.
as yahshua (jesus) said to paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9:
"my grace is sufficient for thee:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness."
what the world sees as disqualified,
YHWH sees as ripe for redemption.
and if we ever doubt whether He can use us,
let 1 Samuel 16:7 echo in our hearts:
"man looketh on the outward appearance,
but YHWH looketh on the heart."
so if you’re ashamed,
shattered,
or carrying a past like david’s—
remember this:
you are not too broken.
you are exactly the kind of person YHWH loves to anoint.
not because you are whole,
but because He will be your wholeness.
