The PREPSS Annual Newsletter highlights key accomplishments, partnerships, and publications from the past year, celebrating the global impact of our editorial mentorship and research support programs. The 4th Annual PREPSS Newsletter highlights the organization’s growth and achievements over the past year, including the expansion of its peer reviewer community to 150 individuals across 26 countries and the successful support of 9 new research publications. PREPSS celebrated Peer Reviewer Appreciation Week (April 7–11, 2025) with events like a webinar and badge distribution for dedicated reviewers. The newsletter features a spotlight on Dr. Lemlem Beza and a profile of the Center for Global Health Equity at the University of Michigan, emphasizing their shared efforts to promote global health equity. It also introduces AI tools for writing support and recognizes reviewers who advanced in PREPSS’s badge program.
The 3rd Annual PREPSS Newsletter (March 2024) celebrates Peer Reviewer Appreciation Week and the contributions of reviewers from 21 countries. PREPSS resumed its virtual peer reviewer training program in Fall 2023, training 19 participants from 18 countries with a focus on authorship disparities, respectful reviewing, and collaboration. Feedback led to improvements for future cohorts. The training program’s impact was published in BMJ Global Health. The newsletter spotlights Dr. Anita Eseenam Agbeko, a Ghanaian surgeon and new peer reviewer, who is conducting research in palliative care and breast cancer. PREPSS also continues its Badge Program, recognizing new associate and senior reviewers, and shares updates on new publications supported by PREPSS.
The 2nd Annual PREPSS Newsletter (March 2023) celebrates Peer Reviewer Appreciation Week and the contributions of reviewers from 21 countries. It features a spotlight on CAsToR, a research center focused on tobacco regulation and public health modeling, and highlights PREPSS’s return to in-person trainings in Rwanda and Ethiopia. The peer reviewer spotlight honors Dr. Dumile Gumede for her work promoting equitable publishing support in low- and middle-income countries. PREPSS introduced new free resources, including a writing productivity video series, journal submission tutorials, and a predatory journal infographic. The Peer Reviewer Badge Program continues to recognize dedicated volunteers, and recruitment remains open to qualified individuals.
The 1st Annual PREPSS Newsletter (March 2022) celebrates the launch of Peer Reviewer Appreciation Week, recognizing the contributions of reviewers from 13 countries. It introduces the PREPSS Badge Program, which awards points and recognition tiers based on review activity and service duration. The newsletter spotlights CIRHT-UM, a PREPSS partner focused on expanding reproductive health training and research capacity in low- and middle-income countries, especially Ethiopia and Rwanda. PREPSS also announced new resources for authors and reviewers, including a systematic review on research capacity-building, free writing tools, and training videos. Events for the week included a webinar on data visualization and the distribution of reviewer badges.
