Individuals from the regular instructional sequence (tenure-track) should not be allowed to transfer to the clinical faculty sequence (non-tenure-track) or vice versa. Except in extraordinary circumstances, the decision as to the sequence in which a person's appointment falls, which is made at the onset of the appointment, will be final. If, in unusual circumstances, a faculty member wishes to change "tracks," all of the following conditions must be met:
A vacant position must have been advertised
The individual's program chair must demonstrate that the change of track is not simply a way of subverting the "six-years-or-out" rule that applies to non-tenured members of the tenure-track sequence, nor is it a way of extending the six-years rule by bringing onto the tenure-track a person whose years in the clinical faculty ranks allowed extra time for accumulating credentials for the consideration of tenure
The circumstances of the proposed movement from one sequence to the other must be reviewed and approved by the Dean of Kinesiology, the Provost, and the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
Transfers from the regular instructional sequence (tenure-track) to the research professor track (non- tenure-track) at the assistant level will only occur if there is an open position and a national search. Such switches require prior approval of the Dean and the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Research professor offer letters and recruitment discussions must include explicit statements indicating:
Research professor track appointments are without tenure
The source(s) of support for the first three years of the appointment; or, if this is a time-limited appointment, the duration of the appointment
The unit’s expectation for research professor faculty to generate salary support on sponsored funds
The bridging obligations for the position (if applicable)
The required “standardized” offer letter and MOU can be obtained from OVPR.
