Adjunct faculty titles may be requested for those individuals whose primary responsibilities lie outside the University or in another capacity within. U-M appointments as adjunct instructional or research faculty are for one year or less, and may be reviewed annually for renewal. If, due to the nature of the responsibilities and activities, the appointment is anticipated to be renewed in SoK for multiple years, that may be indicated in the initial or reappointment request. In these cases, appointments may be considered for internal approval for up to three-year increments; however, SoK HR will check-in with the requestor annually to understand the ongoing contributions and confirm the appointment should continue. These appointments are without tenure.
Adjunct appointments and/or reappointments require approval by the Dean, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs (ADFA), the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) - for research track requests only, and the SoK Executive Committee, following the submission of the requested materials. If necessary, the Dean will call a meeting with the ADFA, ADR, Program Chair, and/or relevant faculty to discuss the appointment or reappointment.
