Individuals on the research professor track are generally individuals whose primary focus on research responsibilities precludes the classroom instruction and independent research program required to obtain tenure. The research professor appointment track is not intended, nor will it be permitted inadvertently, to circumvent the special obligations and rights associated with the tenure-track faculty ranks. The research professor faculty will receive the same benefits as do members of the tenure-track instructional staff, except for tenure and sabbatical leave.
An appointment to the research professor track may be extended to traditional academic professionals as well as professionals with expertise in research. These individuals will possess qualifications and experiences ideally suited for specific research needs that are related to the research programs of the current tenure-track faculty.
Current Kinesiology faculty can be offered an additional research faculty appointment in another Kinesiology Program or academic unit. Appointment to additional positions requires the approval of the appointment by the unit outside of Kinesiology and the approval of the Dean of the school.
