APSIC 2026 is coming to Malaysia!
Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Workshop, 26 August 2025
The Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Workshop, themed “Back to Basics: Strengthening Antimicrobial Stewardship to Combat MDRO” for pharmacists, was successfully held. During this workshop, both infectious disease physicians and AMS pharmacists shared their knowledge on evidence-based strategies for antimicrobial therapy, monitoring antibiotic use, and engaging healthcare teams in stewardship activities. This event also included games and interactive exercises highlighting the importance of optimising antibiotic use to curb the global spread of resistant infections. The workshop is supported by Pfizer Education Grant.
Management of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs) workshop, 21 June 2025
The one-day workshop aimed to equip healthcare professionals with the latest evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies for the prevention, detection, and MDROs. Ten local experts from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia were invited to deliver lectures on multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), each sharing insights based on their respective areas of expertise. Overall, the feedback received was positive. Participants expressed satisfaction with the content, delivery, and organisation of the session.
Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Workshop, 29 April 2025
The workshop had a total of 25 participant which gathered pharmacists from various sections, including outpatient, inpatient, manufacturing, drug information unit and clinical settings. It featured a series of interactive sessions, expert lectures, and case-based discussions covering key topics such guide to culture interpretation in AMS, navigating combination antimicrobial therapy for MDROs. This event has fostered the opportunity to benefit all the pharmacists by promoting awareness of the impact of antimicrobial use and AMR. The workshop is supported by Pfizer Education Grant.
Infection Prevention & Control Workshop, 4-6 February 2025
We conducted a workshop for IPC with numerous participants and stakeholders. Topics such as management of multidrug resistant organisms, waste management, disinfection, prevention of hospital acquired infection and much more was discussed. The program ended with a course evaluation and a bigger perspective on the importance of infection control.
Micropipette Training Workshop, 15 October 2024
We conducted a hands-on Micropipette Training Workshop designed to enhance your laboratory skills. This workshop will cover essential techniques for accurate pipetting, ensuring precision in experimental procedures. Ideal for researchers and students looking to improve their pipetting proficiency.
Nanopore Sequencing Workshop, 1-3 October 2024
The Nanopore Sequencing Workshop provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to nanopore technology and its wide range of applications. Attendees explored the fundamentals of sequencing, including sample preparation, sequencing workflows, and data analysis. Through hands-on sessions, participants gained practical experience using real-time sequencing and learned how to leverage long-read technology for complex genomic research. The workshop offered an excellent opportunity for researchers and students to deepen their understanding of nanopore sequencing and its potential to advance their research projects.
Technical and Networking Workshop on NGS Application for Probiotics Testing, 6-8 June 2023
The global demand for probiotic products has increased due to their health-promoting benefits. However, the conventional testing protocol to verify the composition of probiotics, strain identity, viability, and potential harmful microbe contamination could not support the increasing volume in global food trade. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, an emerging tool for food testing, could be the solution to probiotics testing. This project is proposed to identify best practices and develop guidelines to apply NGS for quality and safety verification of probiotics product in laboratories, and to build the capacity of laboratories in APEC economies for NGS-based testing for probiotics to enhance probiotics testing capacity.
