We ask these questions so that we can make sure your student is eligible to take part in the Competition, whether they are eligible for a follow-on round, and if so, which follow-on round they are eligible for.

Please prepare your students for these questions as well as possible in the lead-up to the Competition.

Not doing so may affect the marking of their scripts, their follow-on round invitation and potentially create more administration time for you after the Competition.

UKMT has reviewed the eligibility criteria for our girls' competitions (the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls, and the Mathematical Competition for Girls) following the UK Supreme Court judgment last year in For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers.

The purpose of these competitions is to encourage and support participation by girls in advanced mathematics competitions. Having taken legal advice, UKMT has concluded that, under the Equality Act 2010 as determined by the Supreme Court, eligibility for these competitions must be based on biological sex. Consequently, our past practice of accepting entries by transgender girls to the girls' competitions can no longer continue.
