Academic Dishonesty
AKA Cheating
If you are not sure if something is plagiarism or cheating, please ask your instructor before turning in the work.
You must work completely alone on anything (all kinds of homework, exams, writing assignments etc.) turned in for a grade.
Cheating = taking credit for someone else’s work.
Consequences for cheating/plagiarism may include: a zero on the assignment, an F in the class, expulsion from UIC.
Here are some examples of academic dishonesty/cheating:
Using a translation program of any kind (AI, Google Translate, Word, etc.) or spell check on any work turned in for a grade. For example: homework, video chat, writing, etc.
Copying answers from any source.
Working with other students, friends, family members on any kind of work submitted for an individual grade.
Having a friend or tutor correct your work. Tutors can help you figure out questions about grammar, homework, your textbook. Tutors CANNOT correct homework or compositions. Be aware of this when you go to LCLC Peer Tutoring: https://lclc.uic.edu/peer-tutoring/about/
Copying another student’s exam, homework, composition, blog, etc.
Copying any work from other resources such as the internet.
Passing information about the content of an exam to another student (in person, via email, text message, or any other way).
Submitting work that you have already had graded in another class.
