Scale up of monoclonal antibody production: computational and experimental approaches
Katie is a 6th year PhD candidate, co-advised with Dr. Terry Papoutsakis and Dr. Marianthi Ierapetritou studying the scale up of monoclonal antibody production. Her research focuses on large-scale bioreactor challenges, including longer mixing times, heterogeneity of culture conditions, and gassing control strategies during scale-up. She investigates these challenges through benchtop bioreactor experiments as well as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and kinetic modeling of cell metabolism. Prior to graduate school, Katie worked for Merck for four years in a mathematical modeling group where she specialized in CFD simulations.
