Postdoc Researcher since 2025, February
I am Chao Xu, a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Papoutsakis's Lab. Under the guidance of Dr. Papoutsakis, my research focuses on Clostridia-based microbial bioprocessing, metabolic engineering, and biofilm reactor design. I am currently collaborating with WUSTL, UCLA, and other institutions on the NSF-supported Engineering Research Center for Carbon Utilization Redesign and Biomanufacturing (ERC-CURB). Within this project, I work on integrating electrocatalysis with anaerobic fermentation to enable sustainable production of value-added chemicals from CO₂. I earned my Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (2024, December), specializing in biofilm-based gas-phase biocatalysis and bioprocessing, and received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Nanjing Tech University. My long-term goal is to advance carbon utilization technologies toward scalable and renewable biomanufacturing.
