For in-person exams, student papers must be scanned and uploaded to Gradescope by the TAs.
Upload an outline of the exam to Gradescope (this is usually done by the instructor or lead TAs).
After the exam is over, TAs take student papers to one of the department's printer rooms:
AP&M: 2331, 5871, 6016, and 7018
HSS: 4096, 5096
Cut staples off of the corner of exams (try to cut a minimal amount of the exam, so that none of the students' work is removed). Then, using the high-speed scanners, TAs scan the exams in batches. Save the exams to a flash drive.
Best practice: in order to reduce the likelihood of missing an exam, it may be wise to keep track of how many exams you are scanning in each batch, and then checking the PDF of each scan to ensure that it has the correct number of pages (e.g., if the exams are 6 pages long and there are 15 exams in each batch you are scanning, there should be 90 pages in each PDF of scans).
Scan both sides of each page of the exam. Make sure to select two-sided scanning. Even if the back of an exam page does not have a question on it, students may use it to write extra work and this should be captured in the scanned files so their work can be evaluated in its entirety.
Once all exams have been scanned, upload to Gradescope. Do not throw them away or shred them (see: What to Do with Old Exams).
