Create rubric guidelines before you grade by looking at a 10 or so submissions.
Note that students can see rubric items on Gradescope.
Decide with your instructor on whether to use positive or negative scoring.
Positive scoring: points are awarded for correct work
Negative scoring: points are taken away for incorrect work
Leave constructive comments on exams. Gently point out mistakes.
Grade consistently. If possible, one TA should grade the entirety of one problem.
If it is necessary to split grading of a problem due to volume, coordinate grading with your co-TAs. It may help to grade some problems together so that you can ensure you are applying the rubric uniformly.
Take grading seriously. Exam scores mean a lot to students.
Establish a regrade policy with your instructor as soon as possible.
Once exams are graded and released to students via Gradescope, students may submit regrade requests.
Ask yourself: does the student bring your attention to anything missed while grading?
Students must provide a clear explanation why they think a regrade is necessary.
Do not regrade exams in front of students.
Keep in mind: a clear rubric can prevent many regrade requests.
