IBSC Stem Cell Culture Resources

The IBSC Stem Cell Culture Facilities are located in a) in the Biomedical Sciences and b) the Sinsheimer buildings, and are advanced research laboratories for the culture and analysis of stem cells. They both provide space for embryonic stem cell growth and manipulation. Facility staff offers expertise in experimental design, protocol development, and data analysis.

Both facilities include multiple BSL2 culture rooms, with spaces that are dedicated to viral transductions and other procedures warranting a higher level of containment. The IBSC Biomedical Science facility also houses equipment required in recording images of living cells, and for applying functional genomics techniques to the study of stem cell biology.

This core facility is supported by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3).

Currently we are not offering -80 or Liq. Nitrogen storage.

Users of the IBSC Sinsheimer Shared Stem Cell Facility (SSCF) are required to abide by all rules detailed in our policies.

Fee Schedule

UCSC Users:

Fees are charged per week: $49.50/per project (per shelf)

• Sinsheimer Laboratories: The Shared Cell Culture Facility is open to any UCSC Investigator needing BSL2 TC space. A project can be up to 3 researchers.

• Biomedical Sciences Building: This Tissue Culture Facility is currently only open to IBSC Investigators on the 4th floor of Biomed.

Non-UCSC Users:

Outside institutions are welcome to utilize the Shared Stem Cell Culture Facility in Sinsheimer for tissue culture during normal working hours (M-F, 7:00 am-3:30 pm). Weekly use fee is $125.00/per project (per shelf). A project can be run by up to 3 researchers. New users will be charged a one-time $308 fee for training and facility orientation.

Hours of Operation

Facility is open 24/7 for APPROVED users. Keys and or Card key is required at all times to access the building and laboratory. Contact the facility manager to arrange for a card key.
