SAFETY: Silica is an irritant... prevent spills near balance and carefully transfer to RBF. Rotary evaporators pose potential hazards... inspect glassware for damage, ensure water does not fall on points of contact for electricity, and operate in a well ventilated area.
Add approximately 0.5 mL (~1.1 g) of silica to the RBF
Power on the rota-vap and warm up water bath
Set up an ice/water bath for the water pump lines
Use a Keck clip to secure RBF to bump trap
Lower RBF into the water bath and begin rotation
Turn on vacuum (slightly) if needed
To stop the evaporation, reverse the previous steps 3-5
*watch for "bumping"/splashing solutions - if necessary, raise RBF out of the water bath and/or allow small amounts of air into the system*
