Fall Fieldwork and Student Teaching

Bilingual Dual Immersion Candidates

Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish have the option of being part of the Bilingual Authorization Program (BAP), and being placed at dual immersion schools where they teach students learning in two languages, pending a fluency exam.

Paired Placements

In a paired placement two UCI teacher candidates are placed in the same classroom with the same mentor teacher. The paired placement allows for greater collaboration between the two UCI candidates and the mentor teacher.

Research has shown that paired placements increase the opportunities for collaboration and differentiation for students.

Student Representatives

Are you interested in serving your cohort as a

student representative?

Are you interested in building an inclusive, positive culture and community?

Student Reps are a core group of MAT students who volunteer to make a difference during the year. In the past, students reps have organized many types of activities and events. Here are some of the key responsibilities of the student reps:

nurture a positive, caring, and encouraging community for all (an absolute must!)
meet regularly with the program coordinator
meet regularly as reps to organize cohort events and discuss cohort needs
maintain good academic standing throughout the program

Summer

Art Workshops

You will take 3 sessions of your Art Methods class (ED 325) during the summer. During the winter, you will only need to have two sessions of ED 325.

July 19 (Cohort A: 9 - 11:50; Cohort B: 1-3:50)
August 16 (Cohort A: 1-3:50; Cohort B: 9-11:50)

In addition to your summer courses, you will be meeting with your Coordinator for 3 sessions during lunch on the following days:

Capstone Presentations

Our MAT candidates engage in a 3-quarter inquiry of a dilemma of practice. This inquiry project culminates on July 26, when our graduating MAT candidates present their research projects and findings to UCI Faculty, the incoming MAT class, and community guests.
