The UCI MAT Program is a full-time, in-person, on-campus program. Through this program, you can earn both your teaching credential and your Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in 14 months. Due to the accelerated nature of this program, attendance is of vital importance. Since there are only 10 class meetings for each class, even missing one class results in missing out on at least 10% of class content, discussion, assessment and feedback. Therefore, the only absences that are excused are for illness or emergencies. Additional absences will result in lost points.
During the 14 months you will follow 2 calendars- the UCI Academic Calendar AND your school district calendar. There will be times when these calendars overlap and you may find yourself with a day off at UCI, but your school district is still open. Or your school district has a staff-free day, but you have classes at UCI.
Here are a few of the differences that you may find in these 2 calendars
start dates will be different - schools have different start dates in August and September
some districts take the whole week off for Thanksgiving break, but UCI classes continue
start date in January may be different - each school district sets their return date from winter break
spring break - many school districts do not have the same spring break week as UCI
last day of school - schools have different last days of school in May and June
