Welcome to Middle School Cross-Curricular Projects!

Below you will learn about the cross-curricular project that took place during the 2019-2020 school year with the 6th grade students. Elementary Art teacher, Meghann Rooney, Technology teacher, Emily Pastorek, and Elementary Music teacher, Lauren Benoit, worked closely together to collaborate on a project that integrated art, music, technology, and English while also tying it to local, national and global experiences.

Georgia O'Keeffe

6th graders learned about master artist, Georgia O'Keeffe. Inspired by her large floral paintings, students created their own masterpieces with watercolor in art class and photography in technology class. The students learned unique photography perspectives in technology class before going on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens in City Park. They took pictures of nature and used their photography as inspiration for their poetry. After learning about poetry in English class, the students wrote about the mood that both their artwork and photography portrayed. The girls painted abstract, closeup views of flowers just as Georgia O'Keeffe had done. Their watercolor paintings were used as the background and foundation of their final projects. In music class, the girls created their very own composition inspired by the mood of their photography. Each girl recorded their music and turned it into a video in technology class. The girls learned how to take video links and make them in QR codes. The QR codes were added to the art pieces to create an interactive experience for the on-campus Fine Arts Festival. Guests would have been able to listen to their music composition while reading their poetry.
