Ursuline music education celebrates the uniqueness of the individual. High School Chorus and Piano is taught by Helen Myers and High School Strings is taught by Lulu Reeks. A broad spectrum of music courses encourages inner-growth and self-expression. Students master musical skills and performance in Chorus, Orchestra, and Private and Group Piano courses.
This performance took place last Fine Arts Festival which consisted of the High School Orchestra and 7th grade students.
High School Orchestra students collaborated this year with guest musicians from the LPO and with guest composers to learn about different approaches to playing and writing music.
High School Orchestra and Choir perform an annual Christmas and spring concert. They also perform at Open House, special Masses and events for the school.
During distance learning, Ursuline's Middle and High School Choirs collaborated in virtual performances of our beloved Alma Mater and a UA favorite, "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace." Though our girls are far apart, they are always united in song. Click play to enjoy their performances

Piano students wrote their compositions using the platform, Flat.io. Some pieces were written with a standard base line, others were written with special codes, using their names, addresses and birth month as guides.

During our distance learning period, High School Orchestra students have been collaborating with composer Dylan Tran on making video-telephonic music, which allows for audio-video signals to be transmitted in realtime - allowing musicians to play together in separate places. The Ursuline Academy Bach Piano Contest was founded in 1960 by Sr. Elizabeth Marie Landry, OSU. Alumna, high school music teacher, and former contestant, Helen Honoree Myers '84, brought the competition back to the Academy and has directed it ever since. It was Mrs. Myers who added the strings to the competition. The competition, which is open to students in the greater New Orleans area, continues to serve as a tribute to Sr. Elizabeth Marie and her many contributions.
While we couldn't host the annual Bach Contest this year, we know our talented students were ready to perform! Contest director Helen Honoree Myers and students were looking forward to celebrating 60 years of this city-wide competition! What better way to celebrate than with recordings of our talented Ursuline girls and teachers!
