In toddler music, the students develop an appreciation for music using elements from "Music Together," which is a comprehensive curriculum that teaches children singing, rhythm, intonation, as well as developing a joy for music. This program uses hand-body movements, finger play, words, and sounds to enhance the understanding of the rhythm, tempo, and melody.

Toddler 3, Pre-K, and Kindergarten Ursuline students have been learning about an instrument or musical vocabulary word for each letter in the alphabet. When Mrs. Reeks or Ms. Benoit have the instrument, they demonstrate how it works and sounds in music class! The girls have gotten to play the accordion, cello, African drums, flute, guitar, guiro, and even the harp. Ms. Benoit and Mrs. Reeks were so excited to introduce the girls to these instruments. They have even continued to share videos with the girls during our period of distance learning!

Kindergarten students visited the 6th grade general music class to learn about percussion instruments! Each student was paired with a sixth grade buddy who taught them about xylophones and how they vibrate to create sound. The girls loved the hands-on experience and even made some new friends!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade students learned all about the orchestra! After completing their unit on instrument families, the girls got to attend the "Early Explorers: Meet the Orchestra" program with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center. First, they attended meet and greet sessions with some of the musicians. Then, they attended an interactive concert. After the performance, several of the girls even said they wanted to be conductors and musicians! Ms. Benoit and Mrs. Reeks were so proud of what they learned through this experience.
