11. SPRING AND SUMMER COURSES
The University of Alberta offers a Spring Term (May-June) and a Summer Term (July-August).
Courses offered in the Spring or Summer Terms are 6 weeks in duration. Some students thrive in a course offered on an intensive basis; some do not. Some students do better academically when taking a course over 13 weeks in the Fall or Winter Term, rather than taking that same course intensively over 6 weeks in the Spring or Summer Term, with less weeks in a term requiring material to be covered over longer classes. Students may also have other obligations in the Spring and Summer, which make the taking of a Fall or Winter Term course the better option for them.
If you are considering a Spring or Summer Term course, please also be aware that the exam period is also much shorter than for courses in the Fall or Winter Term. University rules require final examinations for Spring Term courses to be held in June. Final examinations for Summer Term, or two-term Spring/Summer courses, are required to be held in August.
