Staff Schedule
If a camp participant sustains a significant bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body, staff must immediately assess the child for AHS Red Flags and an accident report form must be completed.
If the child displays any of the following, remove from activity and call 911 immediately:
Loss of consciousness (even if brief)
Neck pain or tenderness (do not move the child)
Seizures or convulsions
Repeated vomiting (more than once)
Severe or increasing headache
One pupil is larger than the other
Slurred speech or inability to recognize people/places
Weakness, tingling, or numbness in arms or legs
Increasing confusion, agitation, or combativeness
If "Red Flags" are not present but the child appears "dazed," "foggy," or reports a mild headache/dizziness:
Remove immediately from all physical activity.
Monitor closely in a quiet, supervised area.
Contact parents to pick up the child and recommend calling 811 (Health Link Alberta) for further nursing advice.
All instances of suspected concussions must be documented with an Accident Report Form and referred to Camp Management Staff. Suspected concussions will always result in the participant being removed from activity for the remainder of the camp day.
If the participant is diagnosed with a concussion, they will not be allowed to participate in any further camp activities for the remainder of the camp week and their return to play process should be managed by a family physician.
