Communication

project reflection

I had a love/hate relationship with this project. I don't like hearing myself speak so the fact that I had to do so for this project bothered me. I tried to think of loopholes to bypass the speaking part of the project, but there were none.

It took me a while to decide on a topic. I don't listen to podcasts, but I am constantly encouraging teachers to implement them into their instruction. There are many benefits to podcasting so I figured it would be a good idea to mesh my love for uplifting others and quotes into a podcast for this project.

I love the power of screencasting. Editing the master of slides answered so many questions I had when seeing beautiful slides on Teachers Pay Teachers so it was a no brainer for me to do my screencast on it. I like how they both turned out.

This week's assignments focus on communication and content creation through podcast and screencast.

I chose to demonstrate how teachers can edit the master in Google Slides. I decided to create a graphic organizer (Frayer Model) as an example. They guide students’ thinking as they fill in and build upon a visual map or diagram. Graphic organizers are some of the most effective visual learning strategies for students and are applied across the curriculum to enhance learning and understanding of subject matter content. In a variety of formats dependent upon the task, graphic organizers facilitate students’ learning by helping them identify areas of focus within a broad topic, such as a novel or article. Because they help the learner make connections and structure thinking, students often turn to graphic organizers for writing projects. The screencast allowed me to demonstrate the process to teachers who can follow each step and watch it as often as they need to in order to confidently create one of their own.

My short podcast series is called Quote of the Day. I wanted this to be a short, yet meaningful introduction into podcasting and playing around with WeVideo's features in depth for the first time. Doing so will help me introduce it to students and teachers more confidently.

I am always supporting teachers with technology integration, but I thought this would be a nice way to uplift them on their way to work, as they're in their classrooms preparing for the day, or a short time during the day when they can have some time to themselves, which is rare. I also thought this would be an example for teachers to try as a way to share information with parents or their students, such as podcasting replacing newsletters, the way the deliver homework, or school information via administration.
