To get the most out of the Honors program, you need to be plugged in to what’s going on. To keep you involved, participation in social-cultural events is a program requirement.
10-12 Social-Cultural events will be offered per semester
Students are required to attend at least 3 events per semester.
Failure to meet this requirement will lead to probation. Failure to meet the requirement twice will lead to suspension.
Your MyTWU Event Pass is how your attendance at events is tracked!
Funding for activities in Dallas or Houston will be provided by the Office of Honors Programs and AHS funds. Honors students in Dallas or Houston are invited and always welcome to attend activities or events sponsored by the Denton campus. The Nursing Liaisons works with the Faculty Liaisons and Honors staff to schedule events and keep track of participation.
Dallas & Houston students must attend 2 events each semester.
Students engaged in certain activities that prohibit their participation are eligible to apply for a Participation Waiver.
Pre-approved activities eligible for participation waiver:
Full time internship in a different state or part of Texas
Full time study abroad in a different country
Students should submit the Participation Waiver at the beginning of the semester(s) for which they are asking for a waiver.
Students that RSVP for an event are expected to attend the event. If you are unable to attend, you must contact the AHS Social-Cultural Secretary and try to find another Honors student that could take your place. If you do not find a replacement then you will be expected to reimburse AHS for the cost of the event ticket. The AHS Social-Cultural Secretary may be able to assist in finding a replacement to fill your spot, however this is not guaranteed.
In order to receive credit for event attendance, students must check-in with an official social-cultural committee member or the AHS Social-Cultural Secretary. If check-in will be difficult due to location, the AHS Social-Cultural Secretary will send advance notice of where to find the check-in spot. These student leaders will always wear a pink vest so that they are easier to spot. Failure to check-in with the committee or Secretary will result in the student not receiving event attendance credit. Students should pay attention to any communication in their email and myTWU for information on check-in as the event date approaches.
