The Texas Panhandle Big Brothers, Big Sisters is an affiliate of the national organization, which is the largest one-to-one mentoring organization in the world.

The mission of the Golden Spread Council is to serve the Panhandle youth and aid them in being prepared to face the challenges and opportunities of life by instilling values through Scouting that will last a lifetime. They provide strong values-based programs that strengthen character, develop good citizenship, and enhance both mental and physical fitness. The Golden Spread Council seeks to positively impact local communities by recruiting and equipping charter organizations and adult leaders who build values, skills, and leadership in today’s youth.

Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle seeks to support the value and dignity of human life, promote self-worth and independence, and strives to meet the every-changing needs of the Panhandle community. Services provided include a food pantry, emergency youth shelter, disaster relief, catholic social teaching, citizenship and immigration services, refugee resettlement, affordable housing, adult eye care, and interpretation and translation services.

Girl Scouting is a community resource that believes in the power of every girls and seeks to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girls of all ages are encouraged to participate in the scouting environment that is accepting and nurturing while developing skills such as leadership, social consciousness, conviction and their own potential and self-worth. Scouting opportunities are provided through partnerships between community businesses and volunteers.

The High Plains Children’s Home and Family Services serves a target area of the Texas Panhandle, northeastern New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Working with children and families from all walks of life, the organization is committed to helping them develop the skills that will be needed to be healthy, productive, and happy members of society. HPCH provides transitional and permanent living arrangements for children ages 5 to 17 years of age whose families are in distress and for those who are referred by church, school personnel and county and state entities. Others served by the family services side of the organization include children and adults with special needs whoare orphaned, neglected, abused, dependent, underprivileged or otherwise taken advantage of.

Besides offering afterschool programs so that children have a safe place to be while parents complete their working days, the Boys and Girls Club of Lubbock provides summer activities and camping experiences Monday through Friday each week for $25 for the entire summer. This low price is well received by most families and provides lunch and a snack daily for students ages 6-18. For reasonable fees, students may add swimming and field trip days when excursions peak their interests.
