Research over research shows that the best way for an individual to master something is for them to first care about wanting to do it all on their own. So as a science teacher how do I get students to care about learning science? I start by developing a relationship with my students. If they know I care for them as a person first they might start to care about what I want them to learn. Then from those relationships I start to try to relate the content to their lives. Now since they start to care I use questions a lot. All questions have answers and if a student cares enough they should want to try to find the answer. The last thing is I allow for as much student voice and choice in their learning. This means they have lots of power in how much they learn in my science class. They can pick the materials they want to use to help understand the material. They also most of the time get to pick how and what they want to do to show me they have learned the material. This student choice will be mostly seen in how they use the hyperdoc and complete the performance assessments.
