These rubrics are created using the NGSS and the performance assessments. They combine the 3 dimensions of the NGSS; SEPs, DCIs, and CCCs. This means students in this science class are graded on doing, knowing, and connecting science!!!
They flow left to right.
They are split into rows based on the different dimensions of the NGSS and columns based on the level of understanding from DOKs.
They use numbers to represent progression through levels of understanding.
Missing (M)--Nothing done or turned in
Attempted (0)--Not met the low level tasks for each dimension
Beginning (1)--Starting to get the low level tasks for each dimension
Progressing (2)--Showing an understanding of parts of each dimension
Meets (3)--Show understanding of all the dimensions of the standard together
Mastery (4)--Can use their understanding of the standard to extend the dimensions
I grade them going from left to right for each dimension. You get the task I move to the right and so on.
Having all dimensions' task accomplished in one column receives that number and percentage for the grade.
If you only have 1 of the dimensions accomplished for the next column it 1/3 completions so 1/3 of the next percentage.
i.e. having 2 dimensions in the 1 level of understanding and 1 dimension in 2 level of understanding gets you 1.33 or 73%.
Attempting the meets or mastery will get you a 1/2 point which means you would have a 3.5 or 95%.
