My first goal as a teacher is to create students who are able to learn no matter the subject in school or context in a life situation. I want to create academic and civic learners. Learning is about inputting information into the long term memory in the brain so it can be used again. I strongly believe that the best way to learn in life is by doing. The doing usually connects with an internal drive (intrinsic motivation link) to achieve a goal. This goes for school, athletics, the arts, home improvement, and the list goes on and on. If I can get students to be internally driven by having them doing the science they will learn the content. So in my science class students learn the science material mostly by doing. This doing can be described in two approaches: skill occurring while doing and the practice being used while doing. To see what is meant by these two approaches click the links.
