Credit transfer for spevialized courses, and taking courses offered at Toyo University
Credits earned at an overseas university or college can be transferred to Toyo University by following the designated procedure. However, transferable credits are only those credits that meet all of the following criteria.
Acquisition of credits for a regular course at an overseas university or college
The faculty deems the course(s) was academically beneficial
The faculty recognizes that the course content and number of course hours for which credit was acquired were equivalent to or greater than the corresponding courses offered in the faculty
Department offering the Program
The Department of Global Innovation Studies and the Department of Regional Development Studies
Points to note
No credits will be transferred for courses that do not exist in the faculty’s curriculum, courses whose content and hours are not considered equivalent to those offered by the faculty, or courses for which students earned credits previously.
Credits earned from courses other than regular courses at an affiliated language school, etc. will not be transferred.
Credits for courses that students fail to complete (fail to meet the required criteria for passing) will not be transferred.
Guidelines on the number of credits required for credit transfer
Note 1: Among Toyo University courses, subjects that are worth 1 credit for every 15 classes will be converted to 0.5 credits.
Note 2: If the credit conversion method cannot be applied, credits will be calculated comprehensively based on the number of hours of academic study, the credit conversion system of the relevant university, the number of course hours, etc.
Maximum number of credit(s) to transfer
The maximum number of transferable credit(s) in tandem with study abroad is 17 credits for one semester of study abroad and 34 credits for two semesters of study abroad. Note that the total number of credits earned at the university by credit transfer shall not exceed 60. These 60 credits include credits earned by various credit transfer systems other than study abroad.
Grades for courses with transferable credits
Courses for which credits are recognized as transferable are graded “T” (Transfer). Please note that "T" grades are not included in the GPA calculation formula. Also, courses that offer transferable credits grant grades in the semester you return to Toyo University under the name of the course recognized by Toyo University.
