CLASSES
Courses offered at Toyo University include semester classes, in which classes are held over each of two semesters (spring and fall semesters), and quarter classes, in which classes are held over each of four quarters (1st to 4th quarters).
In addition, classes such as intensive lectures and practical training may be held during the summer and spring session periods. These classes are called session classes.
T-Weeks are periods set up for students to actively engage in diverse learning activities. During T-Weeks, students are expected, for example, to carefully consider their learning plans, attend makeup classes, and receive various kinds of guidance, which further enriches the value of learning at Toyo University. Note that the first session of on-demand classes may be held during T-Weeks. In addition, in some courses, in-person classes may be held during the special class periods within T-Weeks.
*Changes to student status will be handled according to the semester periods defined in the School Rules (spring semester: April 1 – September 15, fall semester: September 16 – March 31).
The semester periods in the School Rules are not the same as those on academic calendars (class calendars).
*Check the details of academic calendars (class calendars) here (*Clicking will take you to the Academic Calendar / Campus Calendar page on the Toyo University website.).
Academic calendars vary from year to year.
Session times of classes are as follows. The length of each class is 90 minutes. Session times are subject to change.
*The classes for the Evening Course (Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, Department of Regional Studies, Regional Studies Course) are held during the second session. However, inter-courses auditing are given in the 3rd to 6th periods, while Fundamental Education Courses and Common Education Courses are offered during the 1st to 7th periods.
There are two types of courses offered at Toyo University: in-person credit recognition courses and non-in-person credit recognition courses.
Both types of courses are based on lecture schedules that guarantee a total class time of 90 minutes x 15 classes.
Check the Type of Conduction column of the relevant syllabus for the type of provision of each class.
■ In-person credit recognition courses
Of the total 15 classes, more than half (eight or more) will be provided in person. The courses will be provided in two ways explained below. They are treated as in-person credit recognition courses regardless of how they will be provided.
Check the relevant syllabus, etc., for the class schedule and the method of provision of each class.
(1) Courses that are provided by combining in-person and non-in-person classes
In principle, 13 in-person classes and two on-demand or other types of classes will be held.
On-demand classes may be delivered before regular class periods.
In addition, up to seven classes may be held in a non-in-person format (on-demand classes or remote classes). Even in this case, the courses are treated as in-person credit recognition courses.
(2) Courses in which all 15 classes are provided in person
As for courses in which all 15 classes are provided in person, classes may be held during special class periods within T-Weeks.
*Check the academic calendar (class calendar) for the schedule of the special class periods.
■ Non-in-person credit recognition courses
All 15 classes in the courses will be held in a non-in-person format (on-demand classes or remote classes).
As for non-in-person credit recognition courses, as stipulated in Article 39-2 of the School Rules, the number of credits that are recognized as graduation requirement credits cannot exceed the upper limit of 60 credits.
Since the excess credits will not be included in the graduation requirement credits if the number of credits of non-in-person courses exceeds 60, register for courses in a planned manner to ensure that there will be no missing credits.
If you take classes offered at campuses other than the Hakusan Campus (including the General Sports Center), please plan your schedule carefully, considering the travel time between campuses.
*Course registration is only possible if sufficient travel time is ensured.
Classes may be canceled due to unavoidable circumstances involving the instructor.
How to confirm class cancellations (when cancellations are decided in advance)
Information on class cancellations and make-up classes will be posted in “Class Cancellation/Make-up Class Information” on ToyoNet-G and on the Toyo University Official App.

*The above rules also apply to lecture meetings and seminars held on a campus of the University.
If you need to miss a class due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g., Illness, Injury, Transportation Delays, Bereavement Leave) or personal reasons (e.g., Job Hunting) , please contact the instructor directly and follow their instructions. In cases of tardiness caused by transportation delays, please submit a delay certificate to the instructor. Please check here for the method of contacting instructors.
Contacting via email alone may lead to miscommunication or delays. If you do not receive a response, inform the instructor during your next class attendance.
The University will not put you through to the instructor by phone or at Education Affairs Section. However, for cases falling under specific conditions, please follow the designated procedures.

The following methods are available for contacting instructors.
Send an e-mail
Check the instructor’s e-mail address on ToyoNet-G and send an e-mail. To keep your question or consultation short and concise, when contacting the instructor by e-mail, be sure to include your name, student ID number, the name of your faculty and department, and the course title.

In addition to consultation on class content, how to proceed with studies, planning of course registration, etc., guidance on writing assignments is also provided. Furthermore, a wide range of counseling services is provided, including consultation on career paths after graduation, leaves of absence, transferring faculties or departments, studying abroad, entering graduate school, and general student life.
