Overview
TOOOPLE hosted an International Workshop on 21st Century Skills & Innovation and Mentoring Projects for Impact (MPI) — a multi-day, globally accessible program designed to transform faculty members into purposeful, effective, and internationally certified academic mentors. Endorsed by NOCN (UK), the workshop brought together educators, trainers, and institutional leaders from across the globe under one structured learning experience, featuring some of the world's most distinguished voices in education, skills development, and innovation.
The program was designed around a simple but powerful premise: when faculty are equipped with the right mentoring framework, students achieve more, institutions rank higher, and the gap between academia and industry closes — permanently.
Program Structure
The workshop was delivered across four days spanning three weekends in December 2022, supported by two midweek development webinars, combining international expert sessions, interactive group activities, reflection exercises, and hands-on mentoring practice modules.
Day 1 — Saturday, 3 December 2022 (Open to All | 6.5 hours) A common foundation session for all participants, featuring sessions and panel discussions by international speakers covering: 21st Century Skills and Employability, Knowledge Skills and the Academy, Engaging Minds in Real-World Challenges, and a Moderated Panel Discussion. All participants completing Day 1 received a TOOOPLE Award of Participation Certificate.
Midweek Webinar 1 — Wednesday, 7 December 2022 (60–90 minutes) Understanding materials and required participant contributions in preparation for the extended program.
Day 2 — Saturday, 10 December 2022 (6.5 hours) Deep dive into the philosophy and foundations of mentoring through three structured modules — What is mentoring and what does it mean to me? Why do people mentor and how does this connect to motivations? What sorts of people get involved in mentoring?
Day 3 — Sunday, 11 December 2022 (6.5 hours) Advanced mentoring practice through three further modules — What roles do mentors take on and what capabilities do they have? What does the practice look like and what will I need to be successful? How can I accelerate my impact?
Midweek Webinar 2 — Wednesday, 14 December 2022 (60–90 minutes) Reviewing and completing required participant contributions ahead of the final day.
Day 4 — Saturday, 17 December 2022 (6.5 hours) Group Presentations, Discussion and Sharing, Real-World Problem Solving, and Project Portfolio Setup — bringing the full learning journey together into a tangible, actionable output.
Participants completing Days 2, 3, and 4 in full were awarded the TOOOPLE Foundation Certificate in Mentoring Projects for Impact — the entry point into TOOOPLE's NOCN (UK) endorsed MPI certification pathway.
World-Class Program Leadership
The workshop was led and anchored by an exceptional faculty of globally recognised experts:
Mr. Krishna Sistla, Founder and CEO, TOOOPLE — with over 35 years in skills development and senior leadership roles at Oracle Corporation and Sun Microsystems across Asia Pacific. A founding Executive Council member of IIIT-Hyderabad and contributor to UNESCO's regional expert group on lifelong learning societies.
Mr. Andrew Crow, Director and Chief Learning Officer, TOOOPLE — formerly Asia Pacific VP at Pearson and Asia Pacific Education Industry Director at Oracle, with deep expertise in STEM education, learning innovation, and strategic change at scale.
Dr. John H.A.L. de Jong, Professor Emeritus, VU University Amsterdam — internationally recognised expert in educational measurement, language testing, and skills assessment. Technical Advisory Group member of OECD's PISA since 1998, and architect of the Global Scale of English adopted by Pearson worldwide.
Prof. Ashok Jashapara, Professor of Innovation Studies, Royal Holloway, University of London — internationally recognised knowledge management expert, Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, and Academic Assessor of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
Prof. C. Amarnath, Professor Emeritus, IIT Bombay — former Dean and Head of Department at IIT Bombay, founder of IITB's Robotics Lab, Innovation Centre, and the SINE Entrepreneurship and Incubation Centre. Distinguished Service Award recipient from the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science.
Mr. Harish Pillay, Head of Community Architecture and Leadership, Red Hat Inc. — Chief Technology Architect for South Asia since 2003, co-founder of the Linux Users' Group Singapore, and Trustee of the Internet Society.
Who This Workshop Serves
The program was designed for faculty members and trainers from any academic discipline who wish to play a more impactful role in student project development, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and earn an internationally recognised mentoring certification. TOOOPLE's growing ecosystem of partners and customers — including JNTU Anantapur, JNTU Kakinada, ByteXL, CyberLearning, Pragyatmika, NTUC LearningHub Singapore, Skill AP (APSSDC), ITEC, and PATH — reflects the breadth of institutions already benefitting from this framework across India, Singapore, and beyond.
The Gateway to Full MPI Certification
This workshop serves as the entry point to TOOOPLE's complete NOCN (UK) endorsed MPI certification pathway — from Foundation (Unit 400) through Professional (Unit 500) to Master certification (Unit 600) — enabling educators to grow from workshop participants into certified, practising mentors with an internationally credible qualification that advances both their careers and their students' futures.
