Social Narratives
Description of the Intervention
TIER III & SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERVENTION
Social narratives model appropriate social interactions during a specific event demonstrating relevant social cues, other’s perspectives, and a suggested appropriate response.
Implementation Procedures
When a social situation arises, create a story about it.
Within the story, explain what the individual is expected to do in the situation (i.e. during a fire drill, we exit the building and be quiet.)
Within the story, explain when the social situation may occur (i.e. fire drills are every month)
The story can be reviewed daily or weekly depending on the student.
If the student is a non-reader, the story will be read to the student.
If the student is a reader, the story should be written at the student’s reading level.
