Scratch Tutorials - For everyone

Introduction to Scratch Environment

Pinnquaq did a fantastic job in creating a page to help staff/students to become more comfortable with the Scratch environment. Click here to access this page on their website or click on the image on the right to view/print/download a PDF copy.

Draw Backdrop

Watch this brief tutorial to learn how to quickly and easily create a backdrop for your Scratch programs.

How to Use Backpack

There is a great tool in Scratch that most people don't know about - it is the backpack! It's a great place to store your codes other people's codes to use in future projects.

Pixel Art in 3 Ways

This tutorial will show you 3 ways to create pixel art (sometimes known as 8-bit art). This is an art style where each pixel is drawn individually. Pixel art is commonly found in video games and animations.

Add Music Code Blocks

In Scratch you can actually make music! Add these music blocks to use various instruments and notes. You will need to repeat this process for every time you would like to use the music code blocks.

Introduction to Variables

Start off with something simple when introducing variables for the first time in Scratch. Watch the video on the left. You and your students can access this program by clicking on the button below. Make sure to remix the program to get your copy of it and try adding the Steps variable.

Remove & Delete Variables

Now that you have added a variable to Scratch, you may want to know how to remove it from the screen displayed to end users; how to rename the variable; or simply how to remove it. This short video will show you all 3.

Printable Blocks!

This folder will provide you with PNG files for blocks you and your students would use in the newest version of Scratch 3.0. There are also extra blocks if you use the micro:bit, Makey Makey, Video Sensing, Pen, LEGO EV3, Text to Speech, and Translate options.
