A. Introduction
Togo is a country in West Africa, bordered by Benin to the east, Ghana to the west and Burkina Faso to the north. Its area is 57,000 km2 and has a population of around 7.9 million (2019). Lomé, the capital, is situated in the southwest of the country.
B. Economic and Social Situation
Togo is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation. With a climate that provides good growing seasons, the country is essentially dedicated to its main economic activity, agriculture. Although French is the official language, many other cultural dialects are spoken. The major religions include indigenous beliefs, Christianity and Islam.
