Place the book plate in the front of the book.
Usually, it will go in the upper left corner of the inside cover.
If you have a book with a dustjacket, put the bookplate in the upper right corner of the page facing the cover.
If you have a book with information inside the cover (e.g., maps, charts), put the bookplate in the upper outside corner of the first blank page.
Stamp the book.
Use the return address stamp in a blank spot on the title page (usually somewhere in the bottom half of the page).
Use the Trinity International University stamp on all three edges of the text block.
Use clear book tape to reinforce the spine of paperback books.
Tape the spine BEFORE adhering the spine label. (The tape is permanent -- you won't be able to remove it once you've stuck it down.)
Make sure the tape in the machine is wide enough to cover the entire spine and about an inch of each book cover.
Place the book, open side facing left, onto the tape machine platform, with the top edge of the book under the top ledge of the machine.
Line up the bottom corner of the spine with the diagonal line on the machine.
Pull out the tape until the loose edge of the tape lines up with the bottom edge of the book.
Cut off the tape by sliding the cutting tool across the track.
Pull the book out of the machine and carefully press the rest of the tape around the spine of the book. Remember -- bubbles are the enemy!
Your ultimate goal when you're covering dust jackets is to hear no plastic crinkle when you pick up the book. (Plastic crinkling now means plastic cracking after it's been handled repeatedly.)
Measure the height of the book and round up to the nearest dust jacket protector size.
We usually stock 8", 8.5", 9", 9.5", 10", 12", 14", and 18".)
Dust jacket protectors are stored in the technical services supply cabinet.
Ensure that the barcode and spine label have already been added to the dust jacket. (Do not put them on the dust jacket protector.)
Take the dust jacket off the book and lightly flatten out the creases.
Unfold the dust jacket protector and insert the dust jacket, aligning the bottom edge of the dust jacket snugly inside the bottom edge of the protector.
Fold down the top edge of the protector.
Line up the overlapping edges of the protector to ensure that your fold isn't crooked.
Make sure that the top edge of the protector snugly aligns with the top edge of the dust jacket. You shouldn't have plastic-on-plastic anywhere.
Use the side of a bone folder or ruler to firmly crease the top edge of the protector.
Use two pieces of tape to secure the top flap of the dust jacket protector.
Place the tape diagonally along the broad sides of the front and back cover. (This adds dimensions of tension to the hold.)
NEVER tape directly on the dust jacket. (Removing the tape later can tear the dust jacket.)
Avoid the spine and the folds in the covers when you're taping the dust jacket. (This misaligns the dust jacket when it's on the book.)
Wrap the covered dust jacket back around the book, lightly re-creasing the cover folds. Press out any remaining air under the cover.
Using four pieces of tape, secure the cover flaps to the book.
Hold the cover in place with one hand as you're taping with the other.
Place the tape close to the inside edges of the plastic, avoiding the dust jacket itself.
To tape the inside flaps flush to the cover, grab the plastic with the tape and roll it around the cover.
Don't tape the dust jacket on too tightly -- make sure the covers can fully close.
