Class Overview

Welcome to the "Maker" studio. I want Room 38 to feel like a real working artist’s studio, where students learn by making, experimenting, and growing.

I've opened the cabinets, taken out all of the supplies, and made the materials visible and accessible. What this creates is a space where students are encouraged to be independent and inspired to explore.

You don't have be “good at art” to make art. Artistic skill grows through curiosity, practice, experimentation, and determination.

About Ms. Patterson

Welcome to Room 38.

I’m Ms. Patterson.

I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Creative Photography at Cal State Fullerton. Along with my single-subject teaching credential in Art, I hold a Master of Education. Before becoming an art teacher, I spent more than 25 years as a professional photographer, running my own studio and building a career around creativity and visual storytelling.

I’m excited to bring my years of experience as a working artist into the classroom.

TPS Virtues in The Maker Studio

The TPS virtues of Justice, Temperance, Fortitude, and Prudence are naturally reflected in the artistic process.

Justice: respecting one another’s ideas, artwork, and our shared creative space.

Temperance: developed as students learn patience, self-control, and responsibility with their time and materials.

Fortitude: essential to creativity as students take risks, work through challenges, learn from mistakes, and persevere when a piece does not go as planned.

Prudence: encourages students to slow down, observe carefully, consider feedback, and make thoughtful artistic choices.
