Overview of the Principal Role in New Educator Induction

The principal is a critical factor in the growth and development of a new educator. A key support from principals is focusing first on using the Danielson Framework for Teaching (DFfT) as a tool focused on growth, and second as a quality assurance measure. The summary year process should be more about setting meaningful goals and engaging conversation and feedback supporting the new educator to get there than entering scores or evidence into Frontline.

Additionally, the principal will make every effort to place new educators with classes that are the least challenging to teach in order to effectively build their skills before jumping into working in more challenging classes. Over the first five years, the principal will make every effort to gradually provide increasing challenge to the new educator in the form of more challenging classes or additional roles and responsibilities.
