Control center is a feature on the iPad that allows students to have quick access to settings they use often.
The following can be added to the Control Centre:
Accessibility Settings
Camera
Timers and Alarms
Calculator
Flashlight
Magnifier
Music Recognition
Notes
QR Code Scanner
Dark Mode
Screen Recording
Voice Memos
Control Center can support students to:
reduce fine motor demands
build independence
increase efficiency
To access and use the Control Center on an iPad in iPadOS 18:

Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center. Quick access to useful controls can be found here, including, Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb, Volume, Screen Brightness, and more.
Swipe up to access more groups in the Control Center.
Swipe down to go back to the first group of controls.
To close the Control Center, swipe up from the bottom, middle of the screen or tap anywhere outside of the Control Center.
To customize the Control Center on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
Tap the "+" at the top left of the Control Center or touch and hold anywhere below the Control Center icons.
To rearrange the controls, touch and drag an item to a new area in the Control Center.
To remove a control, tap "-" at the upper left corner of the control icon.
To add an item to the Control Center, tap "+ Add a Control".
Use the Search Bar to type a specific iPad Control, feature or tool, or select an item from the Controls Gallery (swipe up to find more controls).
Tap the icon of the chosen feature or tool to add it to the Control Center.
To close the Control Center, swipe up from the bottom, middle of the screen or tap anywhere outside of the Control Center.
To access more controls in the Control Center on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
To see more options for a single control, touch and hold a specific control until a menu is shown.
To stop viewing the extra menu items, tap the screen to see the Control Center.
To see more options for a control that is part of a group of controls, touch and hold the group of controls.
Then touch and hold a specific control until a menu is shown.
To stop viewing the extra menu items in a group of controls, tap the screen, then tap it again to see the Control Center.
(Helpful tip: Not all controls have more options. For example, when touching and holding the Calculator icon, there are no extra menu options, the iPad will go to the Calculator application when touching and holding the icon).
To close the Control Center, swipe up from the bottom, middle of the screen or tap anywhere outside of the Control Center.
To allow access to the Control Center within Apps on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Go to "Settings".
Tap "Control Center".
Tap the circle to toggle on "Access Within Apps" to allow access to the Control Center when using an app.
To stop access to the Control Center while using apps, tap the circle to toggle off "Access Within Apps." The Control Center will only be available while on the Home Screen or Lock Screen.

With the Control Centre, students in the TDSB can:
change the volume of videos or music quickly and easily. Students can quickly turn down the volume of the iPad using the Control Centre.
set a timer. Keep organized by setting a timer that reminds them to work until the timer sounds.
screen record. Explain their understanding of a topic by screen recording and talking about the information on the screen.
quickly open the Camera app. Take pictures of science experiments or projects and add it to their work or send it to the teacher.
