Book Creator is a digital tool that enables teachers and students to create multimedia books.
These books are completely customizable and can be made to support any grade or subject.

Book Creator Guide for Families

Speech-to-Text
Click the + button and choose Text.
Instead of typing, click the record button in the top left of the text box.
Speak clearly and the text will appear as you speak.
Click the red stop button when you're finished.
Click Done to add the text to your page.
Dictate in Multiple Languages
Click the + button and choose Text.
Click the drop down menu (down arrow) to show the language selection before you start talking.
Select the language you will speak in.
Click the microphone button in the top left of the text box to begin dictation.
Text Features
Enlarge text that you are editing by clicking the magnifying glass
Access accents and other language symbols by clicking on the é
Access math symbols and other scripts by clicking the math button
Add Captions to Videos
Record or upload a video in Book Creator
Select the video (ensure it has a blue outline with 4 dots)
Click the inspector button i on the toolbar (top right side)
Click Add Captions (select the appropriate language)
Generate captions automatically or enter manually (*we suggest generate automatically and then edit afterwards)
Wait for captions to be created, you'll see a message pop up when they're ready. You may press "back" and continue editing your book while you wait for captions to be generated.
Edit Captions on Videos
Once captions have been generated, you can preview and edit to ensure they are correct.
Select video (ensure there is a blue outline and 4 dots).
Click the inspector button i on the tool bar on the top right side of the toolbar.
Click Add Captions.
Click Edit existing captions.
Click directly onto the captions to begin editing.
Press the yellow Done button on the top right side when finished.
Add Transcripts to Audio Recordings
Record Audio by clicking + and then the microphone
Select the Audio recording, ensure there is a blue outline and 4 dots
Click on the inspector button i on the top right side of the toolbar.
Click Add transcript.
Select appropriate language.
Select Generate automatically (you may close the box and continue editing while you wait for your transcript to be generated).
Edit the existing transcript if needed.
View transcript by clicking the blue speech bubble beside the recording.
Keyboard Navigation
Use the Tab key to navigate menus and content added to your book. Press Shift+Tab to navigate backwards. (If you're using Safari, you'll need to press Option+Tab together)
Once you've highlighted an item on the page, you can press Space Bar to open a contextual menu. There are also keyboard shortcuts for some actions such as r for Resize/Rotate.
Move highlighted objects with Shift+Arrow keys
Use the keyboard for drawing
Navigate to the + and select Pen
Navigate to the paintbrush and click enter
Use Tab to navigate to the type of brush you want and click Enter
See an orange highlight around the brush stroke on the book.
Hold Space Bar and use the Arrow keys to draw on the page. (Hold Space Bar+Shift to jump larger distances)
Use Tab to navigate to the Done button and press Enter.
Device Not Supported Message
Book Creator is designed to work on laptops, PCs and most tablets. If you tablet is too small (or you try to go to app.bookcreator.com on a mobile phone) you will see the message 'Device not supported'. Book Creator will only work on devices with a screen resolution greater than 600px wide and 570px high.
You'll need to access the display settings for your device to change the resolution.
