Home Screen Pages and Apps on an iPad can be hidden to organize the device, simplify the screen and reduce distractions. Pages and apps can easily be brought back to the Home Screen in a few simple steps.
Hiding Home Screen Pages and Apps can support students to:
increase focus and attention
build independence
create a decluttered work space
improve organization skills
To hide Home Screen Pages on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Tap each image below to learn more, and zoom in to get a closer look.
Go to the Homescreen. Notice that each dot at the bottom of the page represents one Home Screen Page.
Tap and hold anywhere on the Home Screen until the edit options are shown and the apps begin to wiggle.
Either tap the bar of circles on the bottom of the Home Screen or tap "Edit" in the top left corner, then tap "Edit Pages."
Tap the "✓" below the pages that will be hidden. Only the pages with a checkmark under them will be shown on the Home Screen.
When editing is finished, tap "Done" to return to the Home Screen.
Any pages that were not checked with a checkmark will now be hidden. Notice there are no dots showing at the bottom of the page, to show that all other pages are hidden.
Hidden apps will still be shown in the App Library. To find them, swipe left on the Home Screen with one finger until the App Library appears.
To show all of the Home Screen pages again, tap and hold anywhere on the Home Screen until the edit options are shown and the apps begin to wiggle.
Either tap the bar of circles on the bottom of the Home Screen or tap "Edit" in the top left corner, then tap "Edit Pages."
Tap the circle below each page to show all pages on the Home Screen.
Tap "Done" to return to the Home Screen.
All Home Screen Pages will now be shown. Swipe one finger to the left or to the right, to see each of the Home Screen Pages. Notice that all of the dots representing each page are shown again.
To hide apps from the Home Screen on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Go to the Homescreen.
Tap and hold anywhere on the Home Screen until the edit options are shown and the apps begin to wiggle.
Choose an app to hide from the Home Screen, then tap the "-" at the top of the wiggling app icon.
Tap "Remove from Home Screen". Then tap "Done".
Hidden apps will still be shown in the App Library. To find them, swipe left on the Home Screen with one finger until the App Library appears.
To add a hidden app back to the Home Screen, go to the App Library by swiping left on the Home Screen until the App Library appears.
Touch and hold the app until the quick actions menu is shown.
Tap "Add to Home Screen".
The app will now appear on one of the Home Screen Pages.
To move the app to another area on the screen or another Home Screen Page, touch and hold the app icon until the edit options are shown.
Then touch and drag the app to another area of the screen or drag the app to the edge of the left or right side of the screen to move it to another Home Screen Page.
When finished editing, tap "Done".

stay focused during lessons. Hiding extra apps helps students see only the tools they need for learning, like Reading, Writing or Math apps.
simplify learning time. Show only the apps needed for one activity on the screen in order to easily find the learning app.
work independently. During work periods, when only learning apps are shown, students can easily begin working independently.
build good habits. By only seeing school related apps and features, students may learn how to stay on task and use the iPad for learning.
see a calming iPad Screen. A clean screen with fewer apps helps students feel more calm and ready to learn.
