The Screen Recording feature records what is happening visually on the iPad and records audio at the same time. It captures everything students do in any app or website. When they finish, the video is saved in the Photos app. Teachers can also use Screen Recording to make helpful videos or give step-by-step instructions for learning on the iPad.
Screen Recording can support students to:
express ideas on screen with voice over
follow instructions
demonstrate understanding
review instructions
show step-by-step processes
To add Screen Recording to the Control Center on an iPad in iPadOS 18 (This only needs to be done once):
Tap each image below to learn more, and zoom in to get a closer look.
Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
Touch and hold anywhere below the Control Center icons.
Tap "+ Add a Control".
In the Control Center gallery, tap the "Screen Recording" icon to add it to the Control Center.
Tap anywhere on the screen to finish editing the Control Center.
Screen Recording is now ready for use.
To use Screen Recording (without voice over) on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
Tap the Screen Recording icon.
Wait for the 3-second countdown to begin recording.
Tap anywhere on the screen to exit the Control Center. A red Screen Recording icon will now be at the top right corner of the screen to show that it is recording.
Complete the activity or step-by-step instructions to be recorded.
When finished, tap the red recording icon at the top right corner of the screen, then select "Stop".
The recording will automatically be saved to the Photos app.
To use Screen Recording (with voice over) on an iPad in iPadOS 18:
Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
Touch and hold the "Screen Recording" icon to show the Screen Recording Menu.
Tap the Microphone icon to turn "Microphone On".
Tap "Start Recording".
Tap anywhere on the screen to exit the Screen Recording Menu.
Wait for the 3-second countdown to begin recording. Then tap anywhere on the screen to exit the Control Center. A red Screen Recording icon will now be at the top right corner of the screen to show that it is recording.
Complete the activity or step-by-step instructions to be recorded.
When finished, tap the red recording icon at the top right corner of the screen, then select "Stop".
The recording will automatically be saved to the Photos app.

With Screen Recording, students in the TDSB can:
create presentations for Language or Social Studies. Record the screen while talking about a project or book, to share what they have learned.
show and explain their work in Math. Record themselves solving a math problem.
practice reading. Read a story from the TDSB Virtual Library out loud and listen to the recording to improve reading skills.
share learning in Science. Make a video to show a classmate how to use an application, play a game or complete a learning activity.
record ideas for a STEM project. Capture the screen while drawing, writing or talking about the ideas.
narrate a story in Language. Record the screen while reading a story they have written in class.
